  THE MAGIC FACTORY
ABOUT US
Tara OkanMy name is Tara Okan. I am a mask mime and magician. My tumble into this life changing profession began in 1973 with a first street show in an area called Fisherman’s Wharf , San Francisco. Last year I was honoured to become New Zealand’s first ever entry into the World Championship for Magicians. Called ‘FISM’( Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques ) it was held last July in Dresden ,Germany.

Welcome to my company The Magic Factory Ltd. Our workshops are in Auckland New Zealand.

The Magic Factory is New Zealand’s only full time professional magic theatre company. Our performances range in scale from providing cabaret magic shows for corporate events to producing huge spectacular outdoor entertainment for audiences numbering in the hundreds of thousands. The Magic Factory also manufactures film and television special effects equipment and designs and builds specialist props for overseas productions.

To achieve its work the company utilises an engineering workshop, a casting and prosthetics workshop, a dance rehearsal studio and a technical rehearsal studio, for the development and use of intelligent lighting and mechanical special effects. Altogether the company runs about six and a half tonnes of equipment, including computer controlled lighting, a small mobile revolving stage a theatre magic show and a large array of special effects equipment.

Our specialist areas are in the development of lifting and flying harnesses for theatrical use. It is my aim to demonstrate some of our more recent developments at the next world championships for magicians - FISM - in Portugal July 2000. Another area which I am personally very fond of is our development of air cannon technology into firing systems that produce tickertape parades and huge outdoor spectacles.

I could choose to continue a discussion of the Magic Factory Ltd. however in truth the magic craft has had a major effect on my life and I would instead like to relate one of the stories from my performing experience that has taught me the art of magic in real terms as opposed to conjuring for entertainment.

Here is some "Magic" in real life.
